'Tayo Eco' with an investment of more than 1 billion is ready, these are the facilities

Nagarkot, located on the hills of Bhaktapur, near east from Kathmandu, is nothing more than the 'tourism hub' of the valley. Nagarkot is considered to be a very good destination especially for those who want to watch the sunrise and enjoy the natural environment away from the hustle and bustle of the capital city.

There are many hotels and resorts here for Nepali as well as international tourists. Recently added to these is 'Tayo Eco Resort.'

This resort was put into operation by Sugaratna Kansakar, former managing director of Nepal Airlines Corporation and his family. The owner and managing director of the resort is his son Sumiraratna Kansakar.

According to Sugaratna, this resort was started with an investment of one billion 160 million rupees. Sugaratna said that there are preparations to bring international chains to the resort.

"We are discussing to bring in an international chain, it has not been decided yet," he said.

According to Sugaratna, the word 'Tayo' used in the name of the resort is from the Nepalese language. The 'necklace' worn by the living goddess Kumari is called 'Tayo' in Nepali language.

This resort was built five years ago. There was some delay in construction due to corona virus infection and lockdown. Now Tayo Eco Resort is ready for guests.

'Our resort is waiting for guests. "Here, modern services are available in the combination of traditional and modern technology," he said.

The resort has had a 'soft opening' targeting the English New Year which starts next week. He said that bookings are also being made for the new year.

Spread over an area of 30 ropanis in the middle of the forest, one finds the 'Falcha' lane upon entering this resort. There is a parking lot for 40 cars just beyond this street. After this, the main structure of the resort is reached. The atmosphere here is peaceful.

From here one can have a view of the snow range and the valley.

The resort has ten Nepali style cottages. A cottage has four beds. There are total 42 rooms. Of these, two are suites and 40 are deluxe.

According to Sugaratna, staying in a deluxe room costs 15,000 rupees per night. It includes breakfast and dinner.

The resort has a restaurant called Duchula and a bar called Pulukisi. There was no swimming pool. There is an auditorium that can accommodate 90 people at a time.

Most of the structures are ready for visitors, some are being prepared.

'Aiming at the new year, we did the soft opening of the resort at the end of November,' Sugaratna said, 'some structures are being prepared. The grand opening is three months later.'

Solar power has been installed in the resort. He said that solar energy has been installed for the purpose of providing environmentally friendly services. At present, work is being done on the suite room, meeting room and spa. Similarly, the resort has built a structure considering the facilities of wheelchair users. The resort complex can be accessed by wheelchair.

He claims that this is the only resort in Nagarkot with such facilities. Therefore, wheelchair users are expected to be attracted to Tayo Eco Resort, he said.

Even though the area is hilly and steep, we have made it accessible to wheelchairs. Wheelchair users can also visit the resort,' said Sugaratna, 'This is the first resort built in Nagarkot where cottages, meeting halls and restaurants can be accessed from a wheelchair.'

The resort has a safe who has worked in five-star hotels in India for a decade and a half. For now, there will be Nepali and Indian kitchens. The food menu is also being worked on.

According to him, at least 60 people will get employment in the resort. He also informed that an application has been submitted to the Tourism Department for a five-star rating for the resort, which was built to provide high-level services.

Sugaratna bought this resort land 25 years ago. At that time, they did not think of making a resort. While looking for 'refreshment' from the busy daily life of Kathmandu, Sugaratna fell in love with Nagarkot. He said that he bought eight acres of land at that time.

"In the beginning, I bought eight plants, in the following years we invested more in the land," Sugaratna said, "For a long time, this land had grown grass and become a bush."

He said that after his son Sumiraratna returned from studying hospitality in Singapore, he decided to build a resort here according to family advice. The concept of the resort came about seven years ago. The Kansakar family has taken a loan from the bank to build the resort.

"Tayo Eco Resort is believed to be the best destination for tourists going to Nagarkot in the coming days," he said.
