Harles Sobhraj, a convicted French serial murderer who was charged with killing several young foreigners throughout Asia in the 1970s, was released from a Nepali prison on Friday.
Due to his talent for trickery and evasion, Sobharaj earned the nicknames "the Serpent" and "the Bikini Killer" and has been imprisoned in Kathmandu since 2003 for the 1975 murder of American Connie Jo Bronzich.
Prior to his anticipated deportation to France, the 78-year-old serial murderer, whose life was documented in the popular series "The Serpent," was to be moved to immigration custody, according to authorities.
The expulsion was ordered by Nepal's highest court earlier on Wednesday and was to take place within 15 days, although his attorney had hinted on Thursday that it would take longer due to health concerns.
